Dale did his part. He helped people get organized, he made sure they were equipped, he helped make sure all the records were kept. But at the end of the day, he wasn't one of the volunteers who headed out into the island to search for the missing. Dale had been doing that for a long time now, after all, and there were more than enough people out there already who were armed and capable. Dale could have done it, but he didn't need to.
Which was good, because Dale had other things on his mind.
It wasn't exactly a year - in fact, it was a little more - but it was close enough. A year ago, under very similar circumstances, Sookie had disappeared and she hadn't come back. Dale didn't want to mention that to any of these people searching tirelessly for their loved ones, but he wanted to remember. Or rather, he didn't want to forget, which wasn't quite the same thing.
He loved Joe, certainly, and he was more than content with their current arrangement. But he wasn't going to forget her either.
Which was good, because Dale had other things on his mind.
